最近、30年以上もの間、ただただひたすら昆虫を観察しつづけた
フランス人にすごく惹かれています。その名はジャン・アンリ・ファーブル。
そして、とうとう南フランスの昆虫詩人と呼ばれたファーブルが
書いた「昆虫記」を買って読んじゃいました。
めちゃめちゃおもしろいです！
知的興奮がすごいです！
糞転がしの「スカラベ」やいろいろな虫を狩る「狩りバチ」の
本能や習性をファーブル自身が間近で観察し、
実験する様はほほえましくもあり、読んでいて心楽しくなってきます。
昆虫たちの世界の法則や現象は
人間社会ともかなり似ているようにも感じました。
下手なビジネス書よりも、
企業経営にとってプラスになるような格言や名言も
ちりばめられているのではないでしょうか。
虫のことしか考えていないファーブル、
自然の中に生きる虫たちを愛し、虫たちを慈しむファーブル。
一日中地面を眺めて動かないファーブル。
実験用のゾウムシを３日間気が狂ったように探し回るファーブル。
当時の南フランスの美しい風景の描写と相まって、
ライフワークに夢中になり一人喜び、
一人興奮しているこのフランス人が僕は大好きです。

Recently, I am strongly attracted by a French man who continued to observe insects for more than 30 years. Jean Henri Fabre is his name, and referred to as a poet of insects in Southern France. Then, I bought and read his famous work, Souvenirs Entomologiques.
It was quite fun! The book provided me with priceless intellectual excitements! I was very excited when I was reading his observations and experiments on the instincts and customs of insects like Scarabs, dung beetles, and hunter wasps which hunt various kinds of insects. These scenes were quite heartwarming, too.
I also thought the rules and phenomena of insects similar to those of human beings. This book seemed to present many sayings and remarks for business management rather than ordinary business books.
Fabre who considers only insects. Fabre who loves and is affectionate to insects living in nature. Fabre who doesn't move all day long but keeps looking at the ground. Fabre who is frantically looking for weevils as the subjects for his experiment for 3 days.
I truly like this French person who was absorbed in his lifework being delighted/pleased and excited by himself in the beautiful region in South France of those days.
