ベルギー・ブリュッセル Open University レジデンシャルスクール

去年のオックスフォードシャーでのレジデンシャルスクールに続き、
今年はベルギーのブリュッセルのレジデンシャルスクールに参加しました。

今回も日本人は全体で僕ひとり。
グループはイギリス人のチューターグループになりましたが、
ベルギー人、ドイツ人と結婚してドイツに住んでいる中国人、
ロンドンに住んでいるスペイン人、シベリアで生まれて
スイスに住んでいるロシア人、チェコ人、オランダ人、ドイツ人、
スロバキア人、ルーマニア人と一緒でした（笑い）
すごいグループですよね！
多国籍過ぎます！！

で、結果はというと、
誰か一人がしゃべっているのを聞いたり、
誰か一人と話すのは何とかできたのですが、
大勢の人が議論していると、何を言っているのかが
わからなくなって会話に入れませんでした。
会話の流れについていけないということです。

早口でしゃべられたり、ボソボソ小声で言われると
ぜんぜん聞き取れません。
特にヨーロッパ大陸の非ネイティブの人たちの英語は
聞き取るのがかなり難しかったです。
イギリス人のチューターの英語の方が
かえって、聞き取りやすかったほどです。

僕の英語まだまだダメでした（涙）

でも、リスニングとスピーキングを上達させるという
課題を改めて身に染みて感じましたので、
日々の英語の勉強を更にがんばりたいと思います。

そして、こうやって、
世界の人たちと一緒に数日間行動したことは
今後の僕たちの会社の発展や僕自身の成長のために
大きく役立つと思います。

シンガポールでも周りは外国人だらけなので、
最近、外人ばかりと一緒にいます。
日本人が恋しいです（笑）

でも、だから、外国人もおなじ人間だということを
自然に理解できるようになっています。
これが国際感覚というものなのでしょうか？
　

日本人も、ベルギー人も、シンガポール人もいやしない。
いるのは地球人だけなんだ。

ということなんだと思います。

This year, I participated in the residential school of Open University in Brussels, Belgium, following the one in Oxfordshire last year.

This time again, I was the only Japanese. I joined a group with a British tutor.In my group, there are; a Belgian, a Chinese who married a German and lives in Germany, a Spanish who lives in London, a Russian who was born in Siberia and lives in Switzerland, a Czech, a Dutch, a German, a Slovak, and a Rumanian! What an amazing group! It is too transnational!

Well, I will tell you how it went.Although I was able to listen to what a single person was talking about and talk with one person, I couldn't understand what was being talked about when discussion was made by many people. It was difficult for me to join the conversation. It means I could not follow the flow of their conversation.

When they talked fast or in a subdued voice, I couldn't catch them at all. Especially, it was quite difficult for me to catch conversation by non-native speakers of English who live on the European continent. For me, it was easier to understand our tutor's English, that is, British English.

My English was still bad!

However, I have strongly felt I should improve my listening and speaking skills. I'd like to study English more and more everyday. Spending time with the people from all over the world for a few days will be beneficial to improve our company company and for a growth of myself.

Since there are only foreigners around me here in Singapore, I'm usually with non-Japanese people in recent days. I miss Japanese people! This is why I have naturally become a person who can realize foreigners are the same humankind. This is what is called an international sensibility, I think.

There is no Japanese, Belgian or Singaporean. There is only Earthian. I think so.
